Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my HVAC system?
Duct cleaning is needed only on older ducts systems usually over 15 years old. Even on older systems we recommend an inspection prior to scheduling the service. We offer a free inspection if you are interested in duct cleaning.
We do recommend servicing your system twice a year for best results. This will allow your equipment to operate at design performance and efficiency, and can help reduce or even prevent issues or failures. That’s why we call it “Preventive Maintenance” in our industry, and we offer Maintenance Memberships which provide great service and discounts on repairs if needed.
Depending on usage, when it is visibly dirty and has dust on it. Washable filters only cost you your time to clean it, so the more often the better.
The ideal relative humidity for health and comfort is about 40-50%. In the winter months, it may have to be lower than 40% RH to avoid condensation on the windows.

This often varies for many people, usually it comes down to a few key factors which are deciding factors.
  • If your system is out of warranty.
  • If you are facing the choice of a large repair cost totaling a significant fraction of the replacement cost.
  • If your system uses the old R22 refrigerant which went out of production 12/31/2010, and became no longer available to U.S. distributors 01/01/2020, due to the Montreal Protocol of 1989. Supply and demand is now in full effect driving available supply costs way up.
  • If your system is expensive to operate. Maybe you don’t realize why your electrical bill keeps getting more expensive, it’s not always the rate your being charged, sometimes it’s the energy hog cooling or heating your home! Older system can operate at twice the cost of new systems. On average, our systems are 41% more efficient than the original, saving lots on utility costs.
  • If you have had several repairs recently, deeming it unreliable. and especially if your system is over 12 years old.
The industry standard is 5 year parts, and 10 year parts if YOU register your equipment within 60 days. Because we are Certified Comfort Experts for Champion, we insure every system is registered by us, and includes 10 year parts, 10 year labor, 100% money back guarantee or system replacement for the first year.
We encourage people to inspect their filter once a month. Air filters are in the system by design to keep your indoor coil clean. Dirty coils can become very costly, creating a loss of system capacity, increased run times, and are a major repair in regards to cleaning them.
Depends on your air filter type you currently use, and other factors like equipment/ air filter location,, run time, furry friends, and dust in the home due to nearby construction or even remodeling. Typically it should be done monthly for 1″ filters, and every two months for 2″ filters.
In Central Texas we do not need humidifiers, In most cases a dehumidifier is more appropriate (and recommended) to remove more humidity/lower the enthalpy. Moisture in the air adds to the latent heat load of the home. If we lower the humidity, it will make the air more comfortable at higher temperatures. That means you could be more comfortable at 75° with a 40% humidity, than 72° with a 50% humidity inside. The higher set points would save you more energy and equipment run time.
There is only one way to know, and that is to perform a heat load calculation on the home! We provide free heat load calculation with every system estimate and installation. The existing equipment you may currently have might not be the right size. Common factors that can change the size requirements are modifications such as newer windows, adding attic insulation, new ductwork, different roof selection than previously, and building additions or conversions to the home.
